Hip, Knee, and Ankle Pain Relief
Hip, knee, and ankle pain are all common conditions that result from a variety of causes. To treat pain, doctors at Astra Performance Health always start with an assessment of your motion and your spine, to identify the underlying cause of the pain and treat it to prevent further injury, inflammation, or arthritis. We often see patients at our office who have been referred for knee surgery, however, we are oftentimes able to use far less invasive therapies such as Active Release Therapy or Graston Technique to successfully treat knee and hip pain.
Hip, knee, and ankle or foot pain is generally caused by injury, overuse, or referred pain, which means that the pain originates in a different location, often the lower back.
As the body’s largest ball-and-socket joint, the hip joint is designed to withstand repeated motion and years of wear and tear. However, with age and use, the cartilage can wear down or become damaged. Depending on the cause of your hip pain, you might feel pain in your thigh, inside your hip join, your groin, the outside of your hip joint, or your buttocks.
The knee is under constant use, and is prone to wear and tear and problems with the knee cap due to muscular imbalances. Knee pain is a common complaint among both athletes and non-athletes. Likewise, foot and ankle pain may result from a direct injury, wear and tear, or referred pain from the lower back.
